NYLON video ad for YouTube
This video is interesting to consider because it promotes:
1. Cory Kennedy (who made herself via internet self-promotion)
2. Fashion brand Ksubi
3. Nylon magazine
4. A t-shirt, only available online in limited edition
And also:
1. Is only shown on, and was made for, YouTube-cheap commercial alternative
2. Targets an online-savvy population, in particular a younger population who seek exclusivity in an over saturated culture
Is “friending” the new advertising?
Post about the value of “friending” on networking sites such as myspace as a way for companies, bands, products, and people to advertise and market themselves. Interesting since so many companies are starting to have myspace, facebook, etc, profiles.
The Internet Youth Political Participation
by Mark E. Kann, Jeff Berry, Connor Gant, and Phil Zager
First Monday, volume 12, number 8 (August 2007
In this article, the author examine how American youths’ contributions to three online worlds — participatory culture, political consumerism, and civic engagement — function as possible gateways to their increased political participation. Youth involvement in these three online worlds suggests that the Internet creates opportunities for youth involvement in politics and provides a measure of motivation, facilitation, and invitation for that involvement. Nonetheless, for reasons discussed, it remains an open question whether youths will take full advantage of these opportunities.
